THE POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATE CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY COURSE(PgCert - Postgraduate Certificate Clinical Hypnotherapy (Masters Level 7)) (Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis) Course Structure
Entry CriteriaPassing the CPPD in Clinical Hypnosis examination is the minimum requirement for a place on the PgCert course. As part of their training, students will need to apply, and be accepted, for Affiliate Membership of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis - designating letters BSCH(Affil). As Affiliate Members, PgCert course students are required to obtain professional indemnity insurance that will cover them for malpractice and, in accordance with all healthcare training, to complete an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. Modules within the syllabusThe PgCert consists of two 30 credit modules which run concurrently:
In the Clinical Studies and Hypnotic Techniques module, students learn to apply powerful hypnotic techniques that enhance the psychotherapeutic change process to the treatment of clinical and non clinical symptoms. This programme enables students to develop and apply their knowledge of the theory and practise of hypnosis in a clinical setting. Theoretical and practical skills and strategies are developed to support the safe and ethical use of these techniques. In the Psychotherapeutic Studies module, the major schools of psychotherapy are considered and explored incorporating cognitive, behavioural, analytical and individual psychology approaches. The course is focused on identifying, critically analysing, and applying the psychological theories behind the major schools of psychotherapy to the hypnotic model. Students are expected to read course material in advance of attendance. In addition, students are also expected to carry out wider reading of relevant books and journal articles in order to broaden their knowledge beyond the course materials. For more information on the topics covered by the syllabus please click here... AssessmentEach module is assessed by both formative and summative assessments. The nature of these will vary according to the specific modules and may include role-play interventions with colleagues; reflective diary; short answer papers; practical and theoretical work; reflective essays; case studies and dissertation.
Students shall not be put forward for examination without the necessary pass marks on both the written assignments (essays) and the tutorial part of the course. TutorialsOn weekend one of the Post-Graduate Certificate Clinical Hypnotherapy (Diploma) Course, students will be given a list of tutors. The individual student will then be responsible for contacting his/her tutor - usually in their own area - and to meet for an hour's tutorial at least once after each lecture weekend. At these sessions the tutor will check that the student fully understands the content of the previous weekend, will discuss the procedures the student is using with their subjects/patients, and will assess the hypnotherapeutic skills of the student. Because of its importance, the LCCH has arranged a nominal charge of £30 (UK pounds) per hour of tutorial. Students will be expected to make individual arrangements with their tutors regarding payment. A minimum of twelve tutorial sessions are required as part of the PgCert course and exam structure. Tutors may also act as clinical supervisors for trainee and qualified hypnotherapists. Interruption of studiesThe LCCH realises that many of its students are in full-time employment or have equally important outside commitments. Sometimes, the untoward does occur and may result in an interruption of studies. If the interruption is of a temporary nature, then every attempt will be made to allow the student to catch up. This may take the form of attending an equivalent weekend (without charge) on a parallel course at one of our other centres, or on a consecutive course. If the interruption is of a lengthy duration, then students must re-enroll with TVU and recommence at a future date. Exit Skills - Practice under clinical supervisionOn successful completion of both PgCert modules the student will be competent to enter professional practice under clinical supervision and shall be accepted for Associate Membership of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis - BSCH(Assoc). Study ProgressionStudents who successfully complete the PgCert will have the option to continue on the London College of Clinical Hypnosis Post Graduate Diploma (PgDip) Clinical Hypnotherapy.
